3pm to 5pm Mountain Bike Ride at Pleasant Ridge (Optional)
Do you want to ride with your friends, but the thought of riding off-road scares you? This is for you! Sam and Steve will teach you some fundamental mountain biking skills needed to have a fun ride on easy to intermediate trails. During this extensive skills and drills clinic, you will gain confidence and learn the fundamental skills that are used by every top-level rider. We will try to push the envelope and get you outside your comfort zone in a very controlled manner that helps minimize fear while maximizing fun. This class helps everyone with their riding skills regardless of their ability level. The drills are scalable based on ability and they help everyone. I promise you will be a better and more confident bike rider following this extensive skills clinic session, and we will have a little fun in the process. Riders should come prepared for a normal ride with bicycles, helmets, clothing, shoes and water bottles or hydration pack. Mountain bikes only for this clinic. If you want to know if your bike is appropriate for this class, please contact Steve or Sam.
Helmets are mandatory, full-fingered gloves highly recommended. Clipless or flat pedals are acceptable, but it is easier to learn great technique if you do the skills portion with flat pedals and shoes with good grip. Road bike clipless pedals are NOT good on a mountain bike, so make sure you are riding mountain bike specific shoes/pedals. We will not ask you to do anything you don’t want to do, but we will ask you to challenge yourself.
We’ll have a morning of learning and practicing skills on the grass and on easy trails. We’ll break for lunch, and then in the afternoon drive to the Pleasant Ridge trails and put our new shred skills to the test! Riders will be responsible for their own transportation. The cost per participant is $50.00.
We’re limiting this day to 20 people so we can maximize personal instruction and facilitate effective learning. If we get more wanting to participate than that, we’ll do it again soon.
Steve Baker and Samantha Smith (Certified IMBA, NICA and USA Cycling Coaches and Instructors) have over 30 years of bicycle riding and racing experience, and they are passionate about sharing their knowledge with others. They have developed a proven curriculum that helps riders on every level ride better on any bicycle. You may be able to ride a bike already, but we’ll teach you how to handle and control that bicycle better than you ever have before!
Bike Rentals: (If Desired)
Mountain bikes are required (no road bikes). Call your local bike store to see if they rent mountain bikes. You can take advantage of these rentals to try a new bike. Women, please note that bikes with women’s specific geometry are available in several brands like Trek, Liv, Specialized and others.
Cancellation Policy: No refunds will be given, but we will work with individuals to postpone participation into a future event if necessary. In the event of inclement weather that forces us to delay, we will choose an alternative date for the event. We will make every effort possible to host this event as scheduled.
Venue: Gateway Park
Located in the heart of Travelers Rest behind Sunrift Adventures, Gateway Park has tennis courts, athletic fields (including baseball), playground, and a flow park provided by SORBA.
